A Part of History

I logged on to document the excitement of Robin and Patrick's "wedding" and realized that what happened on November 4 deserved its own entry.  And as a history and political science major, I've been fascinated with the election and have been following it for two years now!  So here it goes...

The election of Barack Obama as the 44th president of this great nation will go down as one of the most important events to have occurred in my lifetime.  And I was a part of it.  This was the first presidential election I have been able to vote in and I am honored it was of such an historic nature.  I have been re-inspired by the strength of our democracy as we peacefully observe the transition of power in our government.  Of course, our nation is still in trouble and our problems will not fade overnight.  However, I finally feel as though America is moving in the right direction.  And for the first time in a long time, the United States of America is once again a beacon of hope for the rest of world.  Our ideals have been renewed and we will once again lead the world in search of life and liberty for all.

So, congratulations, President Obama.  May your election inspire the generations of today and those of the future that, with hard work and determination, anything is possible.  And may your leadership re-inspire American ideals around the world.
